Med Consult International

Med-Consult-International is a global consulting firm specializing in medical care, engineering, and humanitarian aid. It focuses on consulting, planning, and implementing healthcare projects in developing countries and crisis regions, combining medical expertise with engineering to create sustainable health solutions.

Dr. Veronika Polcova, with extensive experience in humanitarian aid and healthcare in crisis regions, leads the medical expertise. She has worked with international organizations and governments to improve medical care in underserved areas and brings practical experience from managing mobile clinics in Central Asia.

Dipl.-Ing. Bernd Hesselmann, a biomedical engineer and project manager, represents the engineering expertise. He has led numerous projects in medical equipment and infrastructure for resource-limited settings and integrates technical solutions into healthcare with practical knowledge from emergency services.

Together, Med-Consult-International develops innovative and sustainable solutions for improving healthcare infrastructure, focusing on medical equipment, emergency management, technical infrastructure, and long-term development strategies.

Medical Doctor, Pulmonologist & International Health Specialist Co-Founder

As a dedicated medical professional with over 15 years of experience in clinical practice, specializing in respiratory medicine, tuberculosis management, and international health, I bring a wealth of expertise to the field of global health and humanitarian aid. My passion is improving healthcare outcomes for vulnerable and underserved populations, particularly by managing complex cases in tuberculosis (TB) and HIV co-infections, as well as paediatric care.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with the humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) for over a decade, in diverse and challenging settings such as Tajikistan, Uganda, Swaziland, South Sudan, Papua New Guinea, and Cambodia. These experiences have honed my skills in project management, clinical leadership, and adapting medical protocols to resource-limited environments.

My academic background includes a specialty in Respiratory Medicine from the Ministry of Health in Prague, as well as a Medical Doctor degree from Charles University. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in International Health at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, further deepening my knowledge of global health issues

My Areas of Expertise Include:

  • Patient Health Care Management: Specializing in drug-resistant TB, paediatric TB, and TB/HIV co-infection.
  • Project Medical Leadership: Developing and implementing comprehensive models of care in various contexts.
  • Capacity Building: Training and supervising medical staff in diverse cultural settings.
  • Public Health Strategies: Implementing active case finding, contact tracing, and innovative diagnostic techniques.
  • Policy Advocacy: Supporting the implementation of WHO recommendations in national TB programs.

I am fluent in Slovak, English, and Czech, with proficiency in Russian, enabling me to communicate effectively in multicultural environments.

Outside of my professional work, I am an avid sports enthusiast, enjoying running, walking, and Pilates, as well as being a nature and animal lover. These activities help me maintain the energy and focus necessary for the demanding nature of my work.

My experience in adapting to diverse contexts, working with limited resources, and leading multidisciplinary teams positions me well to address complex healthcare challenges

Bernd Hesselmann

Dipl. Ing., Co-founder

As a co-founder of Med-Consult-International, I bring over 25 years of experience in engineering, project management, and humanitarian aid, serving as the technical expert in our team. I am passionate about leveraging my technical knowledge to create impactful solutions, particularly in development cooperation and humanitarian settings.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of managing complex projects and operations. As Laboratory Manager at the University of Namibia, I led technical operations within the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Mining. I also served as a delegated expert for GIZ in Tajikistan, where I advised on medical device management and developed maintenance strategies that have been essential in improving healthcare systems in under-resourced areas.

In addition to my technical expertise, I have extensive experience leading cross-functional teams and managing large-scale projects. My ability to work in challenging environments, such as war and crisis zones, has taught me to remain calm under pressure and solve problems effectively.

Beyond my professional work, I enjoy long-distance running, outdoor activities, and restoring classic cars—hobbies that help me maintain focus, discipline, and a sharp eye for detail, all of which I bring to my work at Med-Consult-International.

  • Installation of Technical Equipment: Managing the installation of diverse technical devices globally, including in conflict and crisis zones.
  • Development and construction: Development of customised technical solutions, especially for your application in humanitarian and medical use.
  • Support in Procurement, Delivery, Logistics and Technical Acceptance of Medical Equipment: Assisting with procurement, delivery, and technical acceptance of medical technology in development cooperation, including needs assessments and writing specifications.
  • Technical Consulting for Low-Resource or Insecure Settings: Offering expert advice on projects in low-resource or insecure environments, ensuring feasibility and sustainability in challenging conditions.
